Fish, Fish, Shark…

… can you see the shark?       When I bought this pattern, it pictured some kind of a whimsical school of fish on a blue background, good idea, but  – I immediatly saw all the fish in silks, shiny stuff and the surround in hand-dyed fabrics. I especially like the tropical water [...]

Well, to kick something…

…like Chemo will take a while. Even I know that I don’t have to get another one, it’s quite hard on the body. One of the drugs of the chemo cocktail isn’t exactly a Martini, it causes a lot of fluid retention. I feel like a walking water barrel. My eyes are very watery, all [...]

Hey, I kicked chemo!

… and got a T-shirt with the same print    This means, – I hope -, the worst part is over. Although, several people keep telling me that radiaton 32 times isn’t exactly a “piece a cake”. So far, I’m feeling not too bad, of course, no taste again. Not even a bland cup of [...]

4 more days…

Right now, I feel so good, very little impact from aftermath of surgery or chemo. All my taste buds are back in working order, the PT for the lymphedema works wonders! It is so much better.  The only negative is a slight but constant weight gain caused by water retention in my body. I’m sure I’ll be [...]

… came for 10 long hours. The shots I got to raise more white blood cells caused, – intentionally- massive cell production in my bones, mostly in the pelvis and lower back. I’ve been warned about possible pain, but this was a lot of pain. Even a heavy pain killer barely covered the worst. The labor pain, while giving birth to [...]

First Chemo…

…and it wasn’t as bad as expected. The drug cocktail comes with a combination of anti-nausea drugs, thank you chemists! It’s still not too easy to ignore my uneasy stomach and get an appetite for foods. Can’t imagine without these drugs, that must have been horrible in earlier days. I’m just thinking on a day-by-day basis. With one exeption, [...]

Finally, new work

Kindled by a lot of dissapointment over staff at the Cancer Care Center. Jagged triangles, warm and cold colors, shimmering soft silk. Still the underlaying vibrating soul visible. Weired enough, working on this soothes my soul, and expresses my hurt feelings at the same time.         Dupioni silk, hand-dyed cottons (Judy Robertson)       hand-dyed perle [...]

right now, too many things are going on, or… just not going… I’m too sad to work on beautiful things.  - I have to take a break from quilting and art-making. This last year was a whirlwind of chores and events, it’s time to let the dust settle down and start to recover. Three lessons to take away [...]

Back home from Down Under…

…packed with new impressions. Too much to see in only 23 days, but I managed to hit Quilt West in Perth, Australia’s 2nd biggest quilt show. Great experience, fantastic contemproary quilts within a special exhibit ‘Australia Wide’, composed of small, 40 x 40 cm square quilts by OZquilt Network. This alone was worth to go [...]

Ship? What Ship?

25″ x 25″      -      finished block: 2 1/2 inches. A quarter of the size of Earth, Wind and Fire. The top of this year’s challenge quilt is pieced.  All scraps in hand-dyes or batiks. Now, it’s all about the quilting. Again: Ship? What ship? Wat I wasn’t expecting, I truly enjoy to play with the word or motive, coming [...]
